ASYLUM SCREAMED

1987
Hershal Zhon Theater
Las  Cruces, NM

The performance Asylum Screamed involved six actors, two guard dogs, and myself. The actors, portraying guards, attached a one-hundred-foot chain to my ankle, while another actor was locked inside a twenty-foot long cage. I attempted to escape from the auditorium: as the length of my chain increased, the space within the cage was gradually constricted, forcing the other actor into a smaller and smaller space.

Asylum Screamed explored the personal conflict I experienced as a result of working at a primate research laboratory while at the same time opposing the use of vivisection.
